Round Rock ISD is currently in it's second year of the MinecraftEdu pilot program, exploring the newest trend of gamification in education. This year, we applied to be part of the program and were accepted! Along with the support of our wonderful PTA, Minecraft licenses were purchased and the applications for participation were extended to third grade students.
Our first foray into Minecraft will be with third grade students as an after school program, meeting weekly for six weeks. Together we will develop expectations for using Minecraft at school, work collaboratively on projects, and plan for further rollout of the pilot. Ultimately, throughout this experience, we expect to see increased opportunities for creativity and innovation, increased student motivation, engagement, and performance and lastly, an integration of Minecraft Edu into several IB Units of Inquiry across the grade levels.
